Self-Care and Mental Health
A crucial part of ensuring we are living our fullest and most meaningful lives is ensuring that we are attending to our mental and emotional health needs. My hope is to offer tips and ideas for easy ways to practice self-care and self-compassion. My personal experiences with mental illness and disordered eating have lead me to pay close attention to the ways we treat ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. On this blog I hope to be vulnerable and share with you all some common struggles and responses to every day challenges that sometimes affect our mental and emotional health.
Self-Compassion
The idea of self-care has become somewhat of a buzzword over the last few years, but when we talk about taking care of ourselves, its important to also take into consideration what it takes to work towards true healing, rather than focusing on short-term relaxation. Self-compassion compels us to help ourselves look for solutions to our problems that create lasting positive impacts for our whole selves. I hope to share tips on what it means to offer compassion to ourselves and heal our wounds as part of everyday self-care practices.
Embodiment
Embodiment theory emphasizes the idea that many of our cognitions are shaped by our experiences in our bodies. When we face mental health or emotional issues, it can be easy to dissociate from our bodies, but the key to addressing struggles in the mind always begins with taking time to step back into our bodies. I hope to share practices we can do at home, in our cares, in our gyms, and at work that help us to come back to our bodies when we begin to experience stress.
Whole Living
When we talk about embodiment, we are addressing what it means to be fully human. We are more than our physical selves, but our physical selves are also the parts of us that allow our emotional and mental selves to function at full capacity. I have found freedom in cooking and tending to my body in life after disordered eating, and am happy to share with you all some of my favorite recipes that contribute to whole living!
